With more than 1 million doses applied to schools 4,100 municipalities, Brazil advances in the vaccination coverage of children and adolescents. Referring toThe 1st semester of 2025, the unpublished balancereleased on Wednesday (16.Jul.2025) by the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, is part of the actions of the PSE (Health Program at School), which promotes vaccination of students up to 15 years in the school environment. For the first time, the initiative, carried out annually by the Ministries of Health and Education, records data with clipping of the doses applied in the educational space, which represents an innovation in vaccination follow -up.

This year’s national mobilization, held within schools, leveraged the application of doses in the country. In April, 212.1 thousand doses applied in children and adolescents were recorded, ie 10 times more than those performed in the previous month (20,600). The month of May is responsible for the peak of 583.7 thousand doses, which represents more than 25 times compared to March.

“We are showing that we have already begun to recover this great effort to save lives in Brazil through our PNI (National Immunization Program). We exceeded 1 million children vaccinated in schools. In addition, of the 16 national calendar vaccines, we increased by 15 and only one remained stable. By the end of the year, we will continue to intensify our vaccination actions ”said the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha.

Twenty-five types of national calendar vaccines-as HPV, BCG, Covid-19, dengue, yellow fever, meningitis, influenza, polio, measles, mumps, rubella and other immunoprevenable diseases-have already been applied in a school environment in students of 4,100 municipalities, ie 74% of Brazilian cities.

“In the name of UNICEF, I congratulate the Ministry of Health for advances in the immunization of children and adolescents in Brazil. Without a doubt, the country is a world reference. As presented here, Brazil has already achieved the goal of coverage of some important immunizers for childhood and adolescence. It also congratulates the strategies used, not only for microplanation, but for all the effort to involve education with health.”said the head of health and nutrition at UNICEF in Brazil, Luciana Phebo.

Advances in vaccination coverage

The advance of vaccination between children and adolescents is also reflected outside the school environment.

Em 2025, Brazil has registered an increase in the coverage of 15 of the 16 vaccines in the national calendar, reversing the fall scenario since 2016. This progress was possible thanks to the resumption of PNI, the major national mobilizations – as D -Day and the guarantee of immunizers supply throughout the country.

The increase in coverage of the 15 vaccines refers to the 1st quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of 2024:

  • Pneumo10 (1st reinforcement): from 80.66% to 89.13%
  • Meningococcal C (1st reinforcement): from 72.50% to 88.35%
  • BCG: From 63.59% to 88.29%
  • Pneumo10 (initial dose): from 79.65% to 85.93%
  • Penta: 82.37% for 84.22%
  • Vopb: 74.14% for 79.34%

  • DTP (1st reinforcement): from 74.49% to 81.97%
  • Triple viral (reinforcement dose): From 61.62% to 72.89%

It is worth mentioning that, in 2024, Brazil It received the certification of elimination of measles as a public health problem (title lost in 2019) in view of these advances, especially the triple viral vaccine, which exceeded the goal of 95% national coverage by 2024, considering all year round.

Brazil has expanded HPV vaccination in adolescents from 9 to 14 years. In girls, coverage increased to 82.77% in 2024 compared to 78.38% in 2022. In boys, this percentage was expanded to 67.21% by 2024 against 45.43% by 2022.

“You are here, alive, without childhood paralysis and many without ever having measles because one day your father or mother has taken you to vaccinate, often facing much more difficult situations for it.”Padilha said, reinforcing the importance of the role of fathers, mothers and those responsible for vaccination of their children.

Also contributed to the advancement of vaccination and the qualification of data in the country the vaccination actions Microplained and adapted to the reality of each region, the fight against misinformation and the improvements in the information systems and the registration of the doses.

Health at School Program

In 18 years of existence, the Health at School Program – which offers a set of health and education actions – had a historical adhesion in the 2023/2024 cycle, reaching 5,544 municipalities, representing 99% of the total in Brazil.
