FEBRABAN (Brazilian Federation of Banks) issued a note in defense of Pix on Friday (18), after the Brazilian payment system was mentioned in a commercial investigation open by the United States against Brazil.
The entity emphasized that the payment tool is beneficial to competition and contributes to the proper functioning of the national financial system. According to Febraban, the mentioned mention of the United States results from an incomplete understanding of the objectives and operation of the system.
The Federation expressed expectation that the contributions of different sector agents, including the Central Bank and US bank institutions, may assist in clarifying the doubts raised by the US Administration.
To demonstrate the relevance of the system, FEBRABAN presented significant data: PIX moves approximately R $ 2.5 trillion monthly. The system has already surpassed the mark of 858 million registered keys, highlighting its broad adoption by the Brazilian population.
. The Brazilian payment system is cited as an example of how local government favors the country in the detriment of US companies.
“Brazil also seems to be engaged in a series of unfair practices regarding electronic payment services, including, but not limited to favoring its electronic payment services developed by the government.”
