The city of Minot, in the state of North Dakota (USA), is facing a real invasion of Suspects Richardson.
The population of these rodents has grown several times in recent months, and all the attempts of local authorities and specialists in combating pests have been ineffective.
Joshua Herman, a specialist in combating pests, told Associated Press that “a wrong fight” is currently taking place. Kevin Braaten, representative of the Department of Streets in the city, states that, in a population of about 50,000 inhabitants, the number of suspects could be almost equal, estimating “tens of thousands” of rodents.
“I don’t think we will ever be able to eliminate them completely. It’s almost impossible,” says Braten.
A local, Pashone Grandson, said that the signs had made their hints near the door of her house, ate her plants in the garden, and one even arrived in her daughter’s bedroom.
“It was a little frightening. I do not know what diseases I can transmit. And I have a little girl … I was afraid it would bite her.”
The settings were seen even near the Minot Air Military Base. Although the army did not officially comment on the situation, Jared Edwards, the director for school infrastructure in the city, said that the rodents had “occupied” the take -off and the residential areas of the base.
“I do not exaggerate: there are millions. It is a continuous struggle with nature. They have been here since the time of the first colonists,” said Edwards, adding that three schools have reported significant populations.
Currently, there is no unitary fighting strategy. Some propose traps, others – the addition of toxic substances in the diet. But Joshua Herman believes that the most effective solution would be control of the reproduction of these mammals.
“They are cute, indeed. But they are harmful. And when they are allowed to multiply uncontrollably-it becomes dangerous,” concludes the specialist.
