The confession arose during a relaxed conversation at Pedro Teixeira da Mota’s podcast, where the mayor of Oeiras shared youth stories and personal preferences, including the zone where he likes to go to the baths. According to the mayor of Oeiras, the beach that most appreciates is between the Rota Manta, height and Praia Verde, in the leventy Algarve, a zone that knows well and where he usually spends a few days a year.
Despite saying that it will only go “about four days to the beach a year”, do not hesitate to choose that sandbar between Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António as the best of the Algarve.

The mayor, which has several decades of public life, remembered with irony the times when he bathed “always cold water” and said he only left this habit at 40. “The seafood there is a little warmer and it also helps,” he said between laughs. He also confessed that today he is no longer adept at morning dives with temperatures around 10 degrees.
According to the report made in the podcast, its connection to the region is not recent. Isaltino explained that he prefers that part of the Algarve for having extensive, less massive and good water temperature beaches: a feature that, according to him, makes a difference.
Between cold waters and youth memories
During the conversation with Pedro Teixeira da Mota, the politician spoke in a relaxed way about the old habits of facing the cold, even when the pipes froze in winter. “We wanted to do so really cold,” he said, reminiscent of caricatures where the water was trapped in the pipes, but still showered.
In a mixture of nostalgia and humor, he shared episodes of youth linked to the hardness of cold mornings, the times in Bragança and the experience of living in cold interior areas. “The problem was when the water was not really running,” he said.
A choice far from the spotlight
Isaltino Morais’s choice surprises not to follow the most obvious tourist script. Instead of the beaches of the line or trendy destinations such as Albufeira or Lagos, the mayor opts for the leect, pointing the zone between blanket and height as his favorite.
This coastal track, albeit less disclosed, has been attracting more and more visitors for tranquility, environmental quality and inviting temperatures, especially at the summer peak.
