The president of Syria, Ahmed al Shara, announced on Saturday a high “immediate and complete” fire after almost a week of disturbances and (southwest) with more than half a thousand dead, according to a statement. At the same time, the president has reported the deployment of the army in that area to try to strengthen the return to calm. Shara has blamed Israel and part of the Drusa community of Sueda of the spiral of violence in recent days. For its part, the Israeli government has not spoken over the fire, launches new criticisms of Al Shara and its intervention for the lack of protection of the Drusa minority is justified.
“Given the critical circumstances that the country is going through, and with the desire to avoid the spill of Syria blood, preserve the unity of the Syrian territory and the security of its people, and in response to national and humanitarian responsibility, the presidency of the Arab Republic Syria declares a high immediate and complete fire,” details the text made public. The Presidency “calls everyone to allow the Syrian State, its institutions and its forces to implement this high fire in a responsible manner, so that the stability and end of blood spill is guaranteed,” he adds. Likewise, it invites “all parties, without exception” to “immediately cease all hostilities in all areas, guarantee the protection of civilians and ensure access without obstacles to humanitarian aid.”
Shortly after publishing the statement, Shara has addressed the Nation in a speech of just under ten minutes to try to underpin the fire and, at the same time, reinforce its role before a population in part suspicious still for having as the highest authority a renowned Islamist and former member of the Terrorist Network Al Qaeda.
In addition to internal problems, the president does not hide that he has to deal with the Israeli neighbor. “The Israeli intervention revived the tension,” he denounced the Shara referring to them. The president has insisted that “the absence of the Syrian state in these areas would cause generalized chaos and could rekindle the confrontations on a larger scale.” The Shara has defended the Bedouins, but understands that they cannot be those who exercise a role that corresponds to the State and affirms that the Levantisco Druss are a minority that will not prevent Sueda from continuing to be part of the Syrian state.
Israel has shown its discontent with that speech and states that the Syrian president has shown his support for the “jihadist attackers”, according to a statement from the Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, in reference to “the Beduine tribes.” At the same time, he considers that he blames “the victims”, in reference to “the minority Drusa attacked.”
The announcement of Alto El Fuego takes place in the midst of the pressures of the Jewish state, which after the bombing of this week’s neighbor, finally accepted on Friday that Syrian troops should be able to deploy on the ground to try to calm the waters. The Israeli prime minister, while two ministers of his cabinet openly requested the elimination of Al Shara, who headed last December the overthrow of the Bachar the Asad regime.
The Syrian president, however, has found in Washington an important pillar in his career for gaining international legitimacy. Not only has he met with the president, Donald Trump, but he has raised the sanctions to the Arab country.
