At the same time, the Presidential Palace called on all parties to stop violence and respect for the ceasefire. Syrian troops are also deployed in the province.
On Saturday, temporary Syrian President Ahmad Šara announced a “immediate ceasefire” in the Yugosyrian province of Suwajda, who has been swept from inter -ethnic violence with more than 700 victims of life since last Sunday. This was reported by AFP, referring to TASR.
In the official statement, the Presidential Palace called “all parties of the conflict to fully respect the ceasefire and immediately stop violence”.
This statement came after the province of Suwajda began to be deployed by Syrian security forces and after the announcement of an ceasefire agreement between Syria and Israel, which was mediated by the United States. Israel, as well as some of the Drúzké groups, have so far opposed the presence of the Syrian army in this area, AFP noted.
The province of Suwajdá is home to the majority of the Drusian minority, which maintained relative autonomy during the Civil War in Syria. Meanwhile, the regime of the deposited President Bashar Assad was predominantly indirectly there – through local allies or agreements not to irritate the Drus community, which was often neutral, sometimes loyal, but also critical. The Ministry of the Interior explained in its status on the telegram platform that its units began to be deployed in the province of Suwajdá “in order to protect civilians and end chaos.”
The precipitation among the Drúz minority and the Sunni Bedouins broke out in the province of Suwajdá on Sunday, July 13 and grew into violence, which, according to the Syrian observation center for human rights (SOHR), claimed hundreds of victims. In the meantime, new Islamist security forces supporting Bedouins have also involved in the fighting. Israel, who was shooting several positions of the Syrian army, including the proximity of the Presidential Palace, also affected the situation militarily in the development of the situation.
The ceasefire between Syria and Israel was announced on Saturday night by US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, calling on all parties to compose weapons.
