Ex-President Jun Sok-Hol in custody faces accusations of treason and rebellion after circumventing the constitutional procedure in the declaration of martial law, which he intensively rejects.
On Saturday, the prosecutor’s office was charged with the abuse of jurisdiction in connection with his decision to declare martial law in the country. The President is currently in custody, as the law enforcement authorities fear that he could destroy the evidence. According to Reuters and Jonhap, TASR writes about it.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Jun committed a violation of the rights of the members of the government during the process of discussing the statement of martial law. “Jun announced the convening of a meeting only a few members of the government, violating the constitutional rights of the Cabinet members for negotiations and voting,” explained Prosecutor PAK or-Jung during the briefing. According to him, the ex -president bypassed the constitutional procedure for the declaration of martial law.
At the Jun Government meeting, before the declaration of martial law, he called only the then Prime Minister Han Tok-Sua, Minister of Foreign Affairs of CHO Tae-Jul and Defense Minister Kim Jong-Hjun. According to the prosecutor’s office, the ex -president also falsified the decree on the martyr just that it seemed that Han and Kim signed the document after the South Korean Parliament decided to abolish the martial law. This is the third indictment against the ex -president, who was dismissed by the Constitutional Court in April. The defendant is a rebellion for which he is in danger of life imprisonment, or the death penalty, but the moratorium is applied in South Korea. Jun, who is also accused of treason, rejects all allegations.
