Donald Trump has announced that United States retreated from the changes agreed upon by WHO countries

The president’s government reported on Friday that they rejected them the agreed changes in 2024 by the (WHO) countries in the measures to combat pandemics because they consider that they violate their sovereignty. After returning to power on January 20, Trump decided to remove the United States from this body, but the state department specified that last year’s amendments were still binding to the country.

Diplomacy head Marco Rubio and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, very critical of vaccines, criticized changes in a statement. “They represent a risk of unjustified interference” in the “national sovereign law to elaborate our health policy,” they say. “We put Americans first in all our actions and will not tolerate international policies that violate the freedom of expression, privacy or personal freedoms of Americans,” they add.

Rubio and Kennedy detached the United States from a series of amendments to international health regulations that provide a legal framework to combat illness last year at the World Health Assembly in Geneva. Amendments introduce the notion of “pandemic urgency” and more “solidarity and equity”, according to WHO. In his opposition to amendments, Rubio and Kennedy also argue that changes “do not properly address WHO’s susceptibility to political influence and censorship, especially during outbreaks.”
