Ukraine proposed Russia a new round of peace negotiations next week, announced on Saturday Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj. He reiterated that it was necessary to increase the dynamics of the interviews that last took place in early June. At the same time, he also called for a personal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, TASR reports according to the AFP report.
This year, two rounds of Russian-Ukrainian peace negotiations in Istanbul have been held. However, the talks did not lead to a shift to end the war. However, the parties agreed to extensive exchange of prisoners and fallen soldiers. These exchanges took place gradually in June.
Greeding on Friday said that negotiations with Russia need more dynamics. In this context, he asked the new Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Ruster to intensify the interviews.
“Umers (MA) also informed that he proposed another meeting with the Russian party next week,” said Zelenskyj in his regular evening speech published on the telegram. “It is necessary to intensify negotiations,” he added, adding that to secure the “real – peace” – it is necessary to meet at the level of leaders.
Moscow did not respond immediately at the proposal of the new round of negotiations, but already welcomed the need to increase the dynamics of peace talks on Friday as a positive signal. “We completely agree. We are also advocating to speed up the process of negotiations,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
US President Donald Trump has shown his dissatisfaction from Moscow several times in recent weeks, threatening to impose secondary sanctions in the form of 100 % duties on her business partners if he does not finish the war against Ukraine within 50 days.
In response, Russia rejected Trump’s “ultimatum” as “unacceptable” and called on the continuation of negotiations to settle a conflict that caused invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
“If we fail to achieve our goals through diplomacy, a special military operation will continue … This is a unwavering attitude. We would like Washington and NATO to take it with maximum seriousness,” said Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov on Tuesday.
