Moraes is the judge rapporteur of the case against the former president of Brazil. US decision took place hours after Jair Bolsonaro was the target of a new operation of the Federal Police and was under surveillance with electronic bracelet
The United States revoked the visa to Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes “and his allies” in the Supreme Court (STF) for considering that former President Jair Bolsonaro is being the victim of a “witch hunt.”
“The political witch hunts of the Supreme Court Minister of Brazil Alexandre de Moraes against Jair Bolsonaro has created a complex of persecution and censorship so comprehensive that it not only violates the basic rights of Brazilians, but also extends beyond the back of Brazil to reach Americans,” wrote the secretary of US state, Marco Rubio, on his social network, on Friday.
“Therefore, I ordered the revocation of the visas of Moraes and their allies in the court, as well as their direct family members, with immediate effects,” he said, not specifying who will be the “allies in court.”
This announcement comes on the same day that by decision of the Judge of the Supreme Court Alexandre de Moraes, the police have searched and seizure at households linked to Bolsonaro, as there is evidence that the former president and one of his children acted to disrupt the trial of the criminal action in which he is accused of attempted coup d’état.
Moraes, a judge rapporteur of this case in the Supreme Court, agreed with the findings of the Federal Police and considered that, in view of his conduct, the former president and his son are the authors of “clear and express acts of execution and blatant confessions of criminal acts” who persist over time.
The same judge considered that “national sovereignty [brasileira] It cannot, should not and will never be vilified, negotiated or extorted “and indicated that the former president confessed to an attempted extortion against Brazilian justice by conditioning the end of the tariffs imposed by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to his own amnesty.
Among the measures adopted by court order against Jair Bolsonaro are the use of electronic bracelets, prohibition of using social networks and communicating with son Eduardo Bolsonaro.
The former president should stay at home at night, from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, and on weekends, and will not be able to communicate with foreign ambassadors and diplomats or approach embassies.
Last week, Trump announced a 50% rate on all Brazilian exports to the United States claiming, in a letter published on social networks, that Bolsonaro suffered a “witch hunt.”
Trump accused Brazil for “the way former President Bolsonaro has been dealing, with a lawsuit in the Supreme Court for alleged attempted coup after losing the 2022 elections for the current head of state, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
