Raise money on the ATM? Get to know the 'Spanish' method and discover the 'essential' button to avoid fraud

Changed machines, misleading messages pasted by the slot and discreet spies waiting for the right time are becoming routine in automatic boxes across the country. According to police sources, cited by Leak, these crimes, such as one that is known as the “sticker trick”, in which the burns glue a makeshift warning with indications such as “card reading error. Introduce again or wait for instructions”, they happen daily and many victims only discover the loss hours later.

The “Self -Tirk Trick”

The message seems official, but serves to gain time. Within the grooving is a fake device that holds the card as soon as the victim inserts it. Minutes later, the user gives up and goes away. The criminal collects the device, releases the card and gets intact.

Code theft in seconds

It is not always necessary to retain the card. In a method known as “Shoulder Surfing”, it is enough for a accomplice to position it on the victim’s back and memorize the PIN. In other situations, microcâmaras installed in the multibanco frame discreetly record the keyboard.

With the filmed code and a cloned card, the account can be emptied before any warning arises, the same source says.

Digital attacks ‘out of the box’

The schemes extend to the mobile phone and e -mail through messages that ask for “data confirmation”. Login pages are perfect replicas of bank websites. If the user introduces credentials, deliver full access to the account. Storing card and pin in the same place aggravates the risk if the wallet is lost or stolen.

Simple measures to reduce risk

  • Always cover the keyboard with your free hand when typing the pin;
  • Be wary of stickers or strange objects in the card slot;
  • Avoid isolated or poorly lit automatic boxes;
  • If the card is stuck, call the bank’s support line immediately and wait for instructions on site;
  • Activate SMS alerts or app for account movements and keep the pin in a separate place.

What is at stake

Authorities, cited by the recall that a few seconds of distraction are enough to lose savings built over the years. A quick checking of the machine, keyboard protection, and attention to suspicious messages can make a difference between safe operation and silent theft.

Next time using the ATM, it is recommended to pay attention if these scenarios happen to you.
