Eduardo increases illicit after anklet in Bolsonaro, says Moraes

Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) wrote on Saturday (19) that licensed deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) intensified the practice of illicit conduct after precautionary measures were imposed against his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, including the installation of an electronic anklet.

In today’s order, Moraes ordered the Federal Police (PF) to add to the file of this inquiry posts and interviews by Eduardo shortly after the revelation of precautionary measures against Bolsonaro.

“Following the adoption of home search and personal seizure and seizure measures, as well as and imposition of precautionary measures in the face of Jair Messias Bolsonaro, the investigated Eduardo Nantes Bolsonaro intensified the illicit conduct object of this investigation through various posts and attacks on the Supreme Court on social networks,” Moraes said.

It was the minister’s first demonstration in relation to the case after the United States government announced the cancellation of the US visa of Moraes and his “allies in the STF”, as well as relatives of the court ministers.

This Saturday, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva spoke out against the revocation of the visas and provided solidarity with the Supreme Ministers.

Measures

Bolsonaro put his anklet on Friday (18), by order of Moraes. The decision was then confirmed by the majority of the first class of the Supreme Court. The former president is forbidden to leave home at night, between 19h and 6h, and on weekends. He cannot speak to his son Eduardo or ambassadors from other countries, nor approach embassies or consulates.

The former president was also the target of search and seizure at his home and professional office, at the headquarters of PL, in Brasilia. A pen drive was seized that was hidden in one of the residence’s bathrooms, plus $ 14,000 and $ 8,000 in cash.

The measures were taken under an inquiry open at the request of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to investigate whether Bolsonaro and Eduardo commit the crimes of coercion in the course of the process, obstruction of justice and violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, due to the performance of the two in favor of sanctions against Brazilian authorities and the country itself.

In Friday’s decision, which imposed the precautionary of the former president, Moraes cites the risk of Bolsonaro’s escape, appointed by the PF and the PGR, as well as the need for him to interrupt the unlawful conduct of trying to intimidate the Supreme Court (STF) to file the criminal action in which he is defendant for attempted coup d’état, and four other crimes.

Moraes mentioned that Bolsonaro himself confessed to sending $ 2 million for his son to remain in the United States, where he went in March, after licensing the term of deputy.

According to PF and PGR, Eduardo acts on behalf of his father in a journey by Washington to convince the US government to impose sanctions on Brazilian authorities as a way of pressuring Brazil’s court to file the coup criminal action.

As proof, the agencies presented a overview of publications made since March by Bolsonaro and Eduardo in which they defend the imposition of sanctions on Brazilian authorities. In some of them, the former president’s son reports meetings with US government representatives.

The case is related to the taxation of 50% over all Brazilian products to the US, announced this month by US President Donald Trump, who justified the measure by stating that Bolsonaro undergoes a “witch hunt” in Brazil, among other reasons.

Otherwise

Shortly after having an electronic anklet installed at the Federal District Penitentiary Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration, Bolsonaro stopped to speak to journalists and said that the purpose of Moraes’s measure would be to promote his “supreme humiliation.” He denied any plan from leaving the country to escape any conviction.

In a statement, Bolsonaro’s defense said that “he received with surprise and indignation the imposition of severe precautionary measures against him, which has always fulfilled all determinations of the judiciary.”
