A technician with over 30 years of experience has revealed that many air conditioners have a “hidden” button that allows saving up to 40% on the light invoice. The functionality, which can appear in many ways, such as “Ai Smart” or “Eco” (most frequent in Portugal), goes unnoticed by most users and can be decisive on the hottest summer days. A family that used to pay about 93 euros a month with the air conditioner only managed to reduce this amount to 57 euros just by activating this button, without changing anything, according to Work News.
Francisco Mendoza, a climatization systems installer, shared on his YouTube channel, “The Wisdom of Old Age”, a set of practical tricks to reduce air conditioning consumption. Among them stands out the so-called “magic button” present in many commands with names like “Ai Smart”, “Eco”, “Ahrorro de Energía” or “Intelligent”.
When activated, this mode allows the device to automatically regulate its performance based on several factors such as ambient temperature, moisture and even the number of people in the division. Instead of always working at maximum power, the air conditioner adapts to the real need, avoiding unnecessary consumption.
A real example of savings
According to the expert, quoted by the same source, a family that used to pay about 93 euros monthly with the air conditioner only managed to reduce this amount to 57 euros just by activating this button, without changing anything else. The difference represents a savings of about 38.7%.
Mendoza ensures that many of her own customers were surprised by the results. Even on older devices, automatic mode is often more efficient than the manual, even with more limited features. If the button is not visible immediately, the recommendation is to load several times on the modes button until the display shows the desired function. This tip is valid mainly for models released before 2015.
Keep on or off?
Another common theme is whether it is worth turning off the air conditioner when you leave home. According to Mendoza, quoted by the same source, it depends on the time of absence. For small exits, such as going to the supermarket, it is recommended to keep the device on. It is only justified to turn it off in prolonged absences, such as a day of work.
This is because modern devices, especially those who have inverter technology, spend more energy by turning on and off than when maintaining a constant temperature. Forcing the compressor to get over repeatedly can increase consumption instead of reducing it.
Simple rules to save even more
The expert also gives other useful tips, such as switching between cold mode and dehumidifier, especially on humid days. It also advises to properly guide the air flow: grills should point up, as cold air descends naturally and distributes better through space.
It is also important, according to the protecting the house from heat entrance, keeping closed curtains or blinds running during the hours of higher sun exposure. And do not forget the cleaning of the filters, which should be done with warm water and a smooth brush, letting them dry well before installing them again.
