Former president of CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) José Maria Marin, killed on Sunday (20), had his life permeated by scandals of all proportions.
Marin was arrested from 2017 to 2020 for FIFAGATE. He was quoted with six other leaders of FIFA (International Football Federation) for bribery to sports marketing companies around Conmebol, Concacaf and the Brazilian Cup tournament rights. He was arrested in Switzerland and extradited to the United States.
Some of his transgressions, however, were of less scale. This is the case of theft of a medal at the Sao Paulo Junior Football Cup, the 2012 Copinha.
Two months before Marin took over the CBF, Corinthians won Fluminense in the final on January 25. At the time of the award, Marin, then deputy of the entity and interim after the departure of Ricardo Teixeira, surveped one of the medals. The broadcast of the match took the top hat by placing the prize in the pocket in the middle of the distribution to the players.
Asked, Marin said the medal was courtesy of the FPF (Paulista Football Federation). The entity confirmed the version of the leader.
Goalkeeper Matheus Vidotto, however, was without medal and commented the case later to ESPN saying it was a mistake.
A year after the case in Copinha, Santos presented Marin with the medal of the same championship. The leader received the Regalo from Neymar’s hands.
In 2014, the then leader of the Bahian Football Federation, Jorge Lima, was fired after repeating Marin’s gesture at the Bahia awards ceremony in the State Championship.
