For the first time, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro admitted this Sunday to reappoint Mario Centeno as governor of Banco de Portugal.
After several days of taboo about who could be the next governor of Banco de Portugal (BDP), Luís Montenegro admitted to keep Mario Centeno.
Speaking to the Prime Minister considered that the former socialist minister “It gathers all the requirements” to be reappointed.
“Dr. Mário Centeno gathers all the requirements to be governor of Banco de Portugal, this is not at stake … The government’s decision may be to keep the current governor or replace it,” said the prime minister in Funchal, where the annual PSD/Madeira party.
Asked about the profile indicated for the position, the chief executive said that “the profile of the governor of Banco de Portugal is always the same, does not change over time.”
“It will have to be and is [Mário Centeno] a competent persona person who guarantees everything that is fulfilling the functions of a central bank, in what is the architecture that today, on the European scale, is also defined. ”
The decision will be announced by the government in the next Thursday.
The mandate of Mario Centeno as governor of Banco de Portugal (BDP) ends precisely this Sunday.
The former Minister of Finance (2015-2020) has already been available to continue another term in front of the Central Bank.
