A horror movie created by 9th grade students of a Liublian school in Slovenia is generating strong controversy between parents and educational authorities. The short film, aired during the holiday party with the Oscar theme, shows a bloody teacher to pursue and “kill” students with a chainsaw, a staging that many considered extremely bad and completely inappropriate.
About two minutes long, the film features images of blood -covered students, lying in wallets and corridors, while a group of girls tries to escape the murderous teacher. The staging, although fictitious and inserted in the genre of terror, was received with shock by several in charge of education, who considered it “unacceptable recreation of a school massacre”.
“We watched a teacher killing children in a movie. This is unacceptable, especially at a time when similar tragedies occur in neighboring countries.”
Marija Fabčič, director of the Department of Preschool Education of the Ljubljana City Council, also disapproved of the horror movie.
“I am speechless. I consider this approach totally unacceptable and inadequate, especially at this time. It was a mistake of judgment of the teachers, which cannot be repeated.”
Despite the controversy, some parents defend the project and praise the efforts and creativity of the students. One mother stated that the films, which included genres such as comedy and horror, were well received by many and that the scariest moments even caused laughter in the audience.
At the end of the celebration, each student received a “school Oscar” for the characteristic that best represented his work.
The school board has already taken action and assured parents that similar situations will not happen again. For some parents the guarantee is insufficient, they require the suspension of the teachers involved and the school’s own board.
