When many people are drawn to and into the water on hot summer days, serious bathing accidents always happen. 15 people have already drowned this year. Most recently, a 62-year-old Swiss died on Sunday at a triathlon event in Obertrum in the Salzburg Flachgau while swimming as a result of a cardiac arrest. According to Statistics Austria, 44 people drowned throughout last year. The number has been back at a higher level since Corona pandemic, in which the swimming courses are omitted. In 2023, 50 people died by drowning. The number for ten years had not been that high, before that it was under 40 for several years, some of them under 30.
