A asked the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (), the opening of investigation into the alleged use of privileged information aimed at profit from the tariff announced by the president of the United States, against Brazil. According to AGU, the purpose of the action is to investigate the eventual bond of tariff with atypical movements in the Brazilian currency market before and after Trump announces the taxation of 50% of Brazilian exports to the United States, starting on August 1.

“In the light of the reported facts, we can infer that they are inserted in the context in which the facts already in calculation in this investigation are beyond the criminal offenses already indicated by the Attorney General’s Office, related to the obstruction of justice, but also with possible illicit financial gains, through the same facts that sought to impose embarrassment on the application of criminal law,” the AGU.

The request was filed on Saturday night (19) in the inquiry in which federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) is investigated for his performance with the US government to promote retaliation measures against the Brazilian government and ministers of the Supreme and try to block the progress of criminal action on the coup plot. In March this year, Eduardo, who is the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, licensed his parliamentary mandate and went to live in the United States on the grounds of political persecution. The license ended last Sunday (20).

On Friday (18), in the same inquiry, Bolsonaro was the target of an operation of the Federal Police (PF) and was forced to put an electronic anklet and forbidden to leave home between 19h and 6h. The measures were determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes after the PGR alleged risk of escape from the former president, who is a defendant in the criminal action on the attempted coup d’état in 2022 and must be tried by the Supreme in September.
