Statements contradict the position that the former president’s family had been maintaining since the announcement of the tariffs
The former president (PL) denied having to be related to the tariff of the president of, 50% about all Brazilian products and said he had nothing to do in relation to the measure announced two weeks ago. “This is there from the Trump administration. It has nothing to do with us. They want to paste the 50%in us. Lie,” he said. “I have no contact with American authorities.”
In an interview with G1 journalist Andréia Sadi, on Monday (21), the former president also denied that his son, the deputy (PL-SP), could negotiate with US authorities about the taxation. “He cannot speak on behalf of the Government of Brazil. Eduardo cannot speak on behalf of the Brazilian government,” he said.
This state’s statements contradict the position that the Bolsonaro family had been maintaining since the announcement of the tariffs, on the 9th. At the time, Trump sent a letter to the President (PT), in which he said that all imported products from Brazil to the US will be taxed by 50%.
Among the justifications are the country’s treatment to the former president and the decisions of the Federal Supreme Court () against American technology companies. Two days earlier, Trump had published a note stating that Bolsonaro was persecuted and “hunting witch.”
Eduardo, who told the United States in search of sanctions against Brazilian authorities, even made himself available to the Governor of São Paulo (Republicans), to bring the governor’s proposals to American negotiators.
Bolsonaro even said last Thursday (17), visiting the Senate, that Eduardo is “more useful” in the US, and was available to talk to the president about tariffs. In the conviction of the former president, he would be able to block the open commercial investigation against Brazil and the tariff war. “I think it would be successful with President Trump. I am available,” he said. “If you give me a passport, business.”
Last Friday (18), Bolsonaro began to wear an electronic anklet and underwent other precautionary measures by decision of the Supreme Minister. In virtual plenary, the first class formed a majority to endorse the measures imposed by the minister, in votes highlighting national sovereignty and the risk of escape.
