Two 6.7 and 7.4 degrees respectively occurred off the coast of Kamchatka in the Russian Far East, which led to a warning issue, according to the US Inistutite Geophysical USGS.
The focus of these earthquakes was found in the Pacific Ocean, between about 130 and 144 kilometers from the Russian city of Petropolovsk-Kamtsacsky, the capital of the Kamchatka region, the USGS said.
The Kamchatka peninsula where two tectonic plates meet is one of the most earthquake -prone areas on the planet.
Since 1900, seven very strong earthquakes – 8.3 degrees or larger – have occurred along this peninsula.
