Ukrainian President Volodymyr Genskyj appointed 16 new ambassadors on Monday. He announced this on the telegram platform after meeting with Foreign Minister Andrij Sybih, writes TASR. There will also be new Ukrainian consulates, one of them in Slovakia.
According to Reuters, the aim of changes in Ukrainian politics, including the recent reorganization of the government cabinet and the highest diplomatic posts, is to consolidate relations with Washington and, on the contrary, internationally more isolate Russia.
New Ambassadors in NATO
Ukrainian ambassadors in several Member States of the North Atlantic Alliance are newly appointed in Belgium, Canada, Estonia and Spain. Ambassadors in Japan, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates are also new.
The Greek office published the statements of the President addressed to the new highest diplomat. They say that the ambassadors must support “everything that will cause Russia pain” for its invasion. “Although the content of our relationships with America has changed after the change of administration, the goal remains the same: Ukraine must resist Russia’s blow,” said the President of the Ukrainian.
Reorganization of government
Last week, Greeding Grams joined a large reorganization of the government, which was commissioned by 39-year-old Julia Svyrydenková. She had previously worked as a Minister of Economy and is well known – even from a mineral agreement. The new Ambassador to the US was also the then Minister of Justice Oľha Stefanyšinová.
In addition, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha informed on Monday that Kiev is planning to open new embassies in the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Paname and Uruguay, as well as to set up more than ten new consular offices by the end of 2025, reports TASR according to Ukrinform’s report from Ukraine’s Direction.
Planned new consulates
According to him, the new consulates are to be added by the end of the year in many countries, including Romania, Iraq, Italy, Germany and Slovakia, with up to two new consulates in France and Poland. In addition, the status of already existing Ukrainian consulates in Antalya and Gdansk, Poland, will increase to the Consulate General.
At the same time, Ukraine, according to Sybihi, will reduce its diplomatic presence in Cuba, from which part of the diplomats will redistribute to other countries in the region where Kiev will strengthen its presence.
