The Public Health Authority (ÚVZ) of the Slovak Republic has been registering a slightly increasing trend of morbidity on scabies in recent years. This may be due to increased mobility or contact between people. This was stated for TASR by the Department of Communication ÚVZ. Said that By the end of June he recorded more than 660 cases of scabies.

“From the beginning of the year to the end of June we register more than 660 cases of scabies with an morbidity of 12.20 per 100,000 inhabitants in the Slovak Republic,” said ÚVZ. He added that the disease affects more often younger ages from zero to 19 years. According to ÚVZ, the cause of the increase in cases may also cause increased public attention and improved disease report.

Hygienists have recalled that, in prevention, treatment is primarily important to prevent further spread of the infection. “In preventing the disease, it is important to avoid contact with sick persons, contaminated objects such as bed linen, clothing or upholstered furniture. Care should be taken for sufficient hand hygiene,” added.

Scabies is a highly contagious skin disease. It is caused by a mite called Skrabova. It is transmitted from person to person in close and repeated contact with the patient, in the handling or using the same personal things, clothing, towels or bed linen. The first symptom is the feeling of itching, initially mild, which gradually worsens especially at night warm.

“A typical place of disability is the skin between the fingers of the hands, armpits, wrist, elbow hole, groove under the breasts, weaknesses, navel surroundings, knee well. In children and the hair part of the head,” ÚVZ said. Treatment consists in the application of special creams or ointments with the active ingredient that destroys the parasite, while it is necessary to treat persons in the same household.
