The Ministry of Culture issued a note manifesting regret for the death of singer and businesswoman Preta Gil, who died on Sunday (20) at the age of 50.
“Black divided with the world his multiple talents and joy of living. Authentic, humorous and owner of a critical thought, he will certainly miss it,” said MinC.
Preta Gil was in the United States, where he was undergoing treatment against cancer in the 2023 diagnosed bowel.
His career was marked by six albums, as well as a carnival block in Rio de Janeiro, the Black Block, and acting in advertising, with the Mynd agency.
Brazilian cultural icon, was the daughter of Gilberto Gil, being part of a traditional family in the artistic scene. In life, leaves the son Francisco and the granddaughter Sol.

“It is with immense regret that the Ministry of Culture (MinC) receives the news of the death of Preta Gil. At 50, the singer and businesswoman was tireless in the battle she fought against cancer. Her name became synonymous with strength and hope.
His early passage leaves a gap between family, friends and admirers of his life and work.
Preta Maria Gadelha Gil Moreira was born on August 8, 1974, in Rio de Janeiro. Two years after his father, Gilberto Gil, return from exile in London during the military dictatorship.
He began his artistic career behind the scenes as a producer and publicist. Only at 28 he decided to follow the path of music. His debut album, Prêt-à-Porter (2003), brought the hit signs of fire, consisting of Ana Carolina and Totonho Villeroy.
The following year, Preta Gil, Davi Moraes and percussionist Lan Lanh formed the group Tresloucados. Also released albums like Preta (2005), I am as Sou (2012) and all colors (2017).
