The traffic accident of the “sleeping prince”
Al Walid was seriously injured in a car accident in 2005, when he was 15 years old and was studying at a Military Academy in London. The craniocerebral injuries and the internal bleeding led him to a coma from which he never recovered.
Since then he has been hospitalized at a rehabilitation center in Riyadh, under mechanical support, with his father constantly on his side and rejecting any thought of interruption of artificial support.
> Prince Haled, known for his conservative positions, had turned his son’s room into a prayer and follow -up area, while posting regular videos with subtle movements – such as lifting a finger – as signs of life.
The room was adorned with every major religious or national celebration, while dozens of visitors, members of the royal family and citizens were passed through time to pray next to him.

The deceased was great -grandfather of the founder of Saudi Arabia, King Abdullaziz, and a nephew of billionaire al -Walid bin Talal.
> His death closes a long -standing cycle of anxiety and expectation for his family and is a deeply human and symbolic capital for Saudi society.
