Russian President Vladimir Putin could meet his American counterpart Trump in September if both leaders decided to visit China on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Kremlin said on Monday. Putin will participate in the event, but according to Moscow, it is not yet clear whether Trump will do so. TASR reports this based on Reuters report.
“You know we are preparing for Beijing, our president is preparing for this journey … But we haven’t heard that President Trump was going to be there,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said to whether both leaders could meet or even Chinese President Si Jin-Pching.
A meeting of leaders in Beijing
“If it happens that (Trump) will be there, then, of course, we cannot rule out that the issue of effectiveness will open,” Peskov added.
The Times reported last week that China is preparing to organize the summit between Trump and Putin, recalls Reuters.
Six phone calls and sanctions
According to Reuters, Putin and Trump have been talking to the White House at least six times since his return to the White House. The Kremlin spoke for their personal meeting, which would require thorough preparation to bring results.
Trump recently expressed growing frustration in connection with the lack of progress in the end of the war in Ukraine. Last week he said that he would impose new sanctions on Russia within 50 days if Moscow does not agree with the Peace Agreement. This time will expire in early September, which coincides with the date of the Beijing event, adds Reuters.
