The tension at the border with Israel persists despite the ceasefire of November 2024.
A special American envoy Thomas Barrack said on Monday that the conflict between Lebanon and Israel, Washington could not force Israel to do anything. According to Reuters report, TASR reports this.
“The United States has no right to persuade Israel to do anything. We are here to use our influence and combine peaceful minds and conclude,” Barrack said at a press conference after a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawáf Salam in Beirut. He also excluded the deeper military engagement of the US in the region. “We will not put on other soldiers in a hostile position anywhere,” he stressed.
Hezbollah pressure
In addition, Barrack said Washington was urging the Lebanese government to disarm the militant Hezbollah movement. He noted, however, that these are the internal affairs of the country, even if the US will be “disappointed” unless it happens, AFP writes.
The envoy commented at a time when Israel maintains its presence along the southern Lebanese border and continues to attack despite repeated calls for de-escalation and a fault agreement, said al-Jazeera television.
Losses in war
