Confusion began after the former president’s meeting with allies; pushing-pushing toppled people and damaged furniture at the Green Hall of Congress
The passage of the former president (PL) by the House of Representatives on Monday (21) was marked by confusion, push and controversial statements. After attending a meeting with party allies, Bolsonaro left the scene in the midst of turmoil and showed he used last Friday.
“This is the ultimate symbol of humiliation. I didn’t track anyone,” Bolsonaro said as he descended the Congress staircases, contrary to the minister’s determination of the Supreme Court (STF), which prohibited it from making public statements, including through social networks or third parties.
During the movement, the former president was surrounded by supporters, parliamentarians and journalists, which generated a great push. People fell and a green room table was broken. The riot also started off the PL leadership room and extended to two congressional staircases.
Parliamentarians who participated in the meeting stated that there was no public speech forecast by Bolsonaro. The former president’s lawyers’ advice was clear: absolute silence to avoid the risk of arrest for breach of court orders.
Nevertheless, Bolsonaro was surprised to cancel two previously scheduled interviews – one with a press vehicle and one press conference – and then made makeshift statements to leave, challenging the restrictions imposed by the Supreme.
The trip to the House was motivated by the PL internal discussions about the next steps of the opposition to the restrictions applied by Moraes, which investigates Bolsonaro on different fronts. The public appearance and unauthorized speech now place the former president in a new situation of legal risk.
