Highlight of Cruzeiro, Cássio will return, for the first time, to Neo Chemistry Arena, one of the main stages of his career, to rediscover Corinthians and the fans alvinegra. The duel will be this Thursday (23), at 19:30 (Brasília), for the 16th round of Serie A of the Brazilian Championship.
The archer could not face in the Brazilian last year and will now live the unprecedented experience. In the first round, he was not yet legal to act, while in the return he was spared by Fernando Diniz, eyeing the decision of the South American Cup.
Troubled outlet
Cassio left the course to Cruzeiro in May 2024, after having the image worn at the club. Following flaws, painful defeats, lots of pressure, and impactful statements ended the story that seemed eternal.
Shirt 1, which wore 12 in Itaquera, could not resist the bad general phase that the alvinegro club crossed, on and off the pitch. More than not surrender on the pitch, the idol began to live with mental health problems and had depression.
“That’s what I lived at Corinthians, when I left Corinthians. Today, looking more calmly, it was the best thing for both sides. I had no strength to help at that time and was in a deep depression,” Cássio said in an interview with Cruzeiro Cast in early July.
Expectation for the failed reception
Despite being an absolute corinthians idol, Cassio generated hurt in part of the alvinegra fans for the form that left the club. On social networks, it is not difficult to find comments from Corinthians criticizing the goalkeeper.
Given this scenario, there is an expectation of how Cruzeirense will be received at Neo Chemistry Arena on Wednesday.
Cassio for Corinthians
Cassio was definitely transferred to Corinthians in 2012 after a passage in Dutch football. He gained space with Tite and, from then on, made history being a key player in several titles, such as the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup in the same year. Subsequently, the goalkeeper still won four Paulista Championships (2013, 2017, 2018 and 2019), two Brazilian championships (2015 and 2017) and a South American Recopa (2013).
In all, the goalkeeper stayed at the club for 12 years and ended his spell with 712 games. He is the second athlete with more performances by Corinthians in history.
