The federal deputy (PL-SP) and the influencer recognized on Monday (21) that the possibility of imposing commercial tariffs on Brazil was discussed at meetings that they had with US government officials before the president announced the measure. The recognition goes against the former president’s speech (PL), who said earlier that he has no relationship with the fare.

Eduardo and Figueiredo said the possibility was brought to the table by the US government and initially argued that only the minister and other Brazilian authorities were sanctioned. Now, however, they consider that Trump’s option for a 50% fare against Brazil has been settled.

“When this option was discussed with Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro and we, we gave our opinion. In our opinion, this measure was not the best to apply at that time. We advocated in the direction of sanctions directed to the main agents of the dictatorship,” said Paulo Figueiredo at Podcast Intelligence Ltda.

Eduardo Bolsonaro completed. “We did not imagine that at first the fare was decreed. But as Paulo well said, we are not the president of the United States. We do not have the power of the pen,” replied the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Then Figueiredo said that although he has a lawyer against tariffs at the first moment, he currently considers that Trump got it right and that it is “100% convinced” that the tariffs were the correct movement to Brazil. “I agree,” Eduardo said when asked about the influencer’s response. “So much so that I call the tariffs. There were 50%tariffs, the largest of the latter, due to the institutional crisis that Moraes is making,” he continued.

He exemplified his position by citing the hypothetical case of those who make deliveries by application and is taxed by 50%. “When he wants to complain, perhaps he will be silent. Before any kind of commercial issue, freedom comes. If you can’t talk, give your opinion, you will be a slave, a Cuban. We want to preserve the freedoms of our democracy,” he said.

‘It has nothing to do with us’

In an interview with G1 journalist Andréia Sadi on Monday, the former president denied that his political group had any relation to Trump’s decision. “This is there from the Trump administration. It has nothing to do with us. They want to paste the 50%in us. Lie,” he said. “I have no contact with American authorities.”

He also rejected Eduardo to negotiate with US authorities about the taxation. “He cannot speak on behalf of the Government of Brazil. Eduardo cannot speak on behalf of the Brazilian government,” said the former president.
