The German federal office Friedrich Merz awarded the Czech ammunition initiative, which he believes is an exemplary help of Ukraine. According to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, at a Tuesday meeting in Berlin, they agreed that it was necessary to continue to ensure the smooth supplies of military equipment to Ukraine in order to effectively defend against Russia. Politicians have also highlighted the mutual relations of the countries, according to Fiala, they are the strongest in history, reports TASR.
Merz: Czechs just like the Germans understood that the tense situation in the east wants a decisive answer
Merz described Czechs as close partners and friends and noted that, given the common history of the countries, this is not a matter of course. He considers security to be key in bilateral relations of countries, but also at European level. “The political situation remains extremely tense on the eastern wing. The aggressive war of Russia continues to Ukraine. The Czechs, as the Germans, understood that it requires a decisive answer,” said the office.
He described the Czech ammunition initiative as exemplary assistance to Ukraine and thanked the Czech Republic for their willingness to seize this project. “Together we are increasing the pressure on Russia, most recently using the 18 -penalty package, which, thankfully, entered into force,” he said.
Petr Fiala considers Germany to be a strategic partner
Merz added that more intensive economic cooperation between the Czech Republic and Germany would help improve the traffic connections between countries. Fiala also agreed and noted that the Czech government recently approved the design of the construction of the Krušnohorský tunnel between the Czech Republic and Germany, which should shorten the train between Prague and Berlin from the current four hours to two. The tunnel will be designed at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour for passenger transport.
Fiala described Germany as a strategic partner. “Our relationships are stronger than ever before, they are based on trust, open dialogue and common interest in stable and prosperous Europe,” the Czech Prime Minister said.
The Prime Ministers agreed that it is necessary to continue the joint efforts to support Ukraine
The Czech Prime Minister welcomed that Germany took more responsibility for the defense of Europe. “We agreed with the office that it was necessary to continue the joint efforts to support Ukraine and ensure the smooth supplies of military equipment so that Ukraine could continue its brave struggle.
He also considers the fight against illegal migration to be a key theme of Fiala. If the EU states do not find an effective solution at European level, the consequence of the renewal at the borders of individual states within Schengen will be the result, which may worsen relations. “We have some understanding to introduce controls on the German border … But we may agree that a long -term solution is not in control, but in finding an effective European solution,” Fiala added.
