After a critical letter from the MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement) to the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), the MDA (Ministry of Agrarian Development) issued a note on Tuesday (22), stating that current management resumed the pace of land reform in the country.

According to the folder, by the end of the year, about 14,000 new lots will be made available for settlements.

“The goal is to create 30,000 new lots still in 2025 and 60 thousand until the end of the term, which represents half of all 120 thousand families camped throughout Brazil,” says the folder.

The movement published, this Monday (21), on social networks,

In the document, the organization states that about 400,000 settlers still await the implementation of public policies that guarantee the reform. In the letter, entitled “Lula, where is the land reform?”, The MST expresses its dissatisfaction with the current pace of government actions in the sector.

The social movement also said that “the slowness of the government, through its ministries, in particular, of the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA) and the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra), only increases discouragement and further enhances social conflicts.”

In opposition, MDA states that “the average price of land in Brazil has risen 113% in the last five years.”

“We respect the role of social movements to claim, but the truth is that the Lula government 3 walks to beat historical records in agrarian reform,” says the folder, in a statement.

The MST demonstration was published in allusion to Labor Day and the Rural Worker, celebrated on July 25.

The movement said in publication that the objective of the document is to “guide the Lula government for the advancement of agrarian reform policies.” Thus, the pressure of social movements by the government’s more severe position on the agrarian issue highlights.
