The president (PT) met on Tuesday (22) with the governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande (PSB), to discuss the launch of a medical course at a state college, where he took the opportunity to address the tariffs imposed by the United States to Brazil.
“There in the state of Espírito Santo we are also holding hands at this time when we are living this crisis of tariff with this unbalanced measure of the president’s government [Donald] Trump, “said Casagrande.
“We also set up a group within the government to dialogue with the local productive sector and we are aligned with the economic decisions that the federal government is making.”
According to him, this group should evaluate the impacts of the measure on the state economy, as well as verify the repercussions on ES revenue.
The governor also said that he has been following the federal government’s positions to align and reproduce measures at the state level.
“We do not have much to do, except to support the government in this permanent search for dialogue with the United States, attempt to open a channel directly through the productive sector for us to find a trading path,” he added. “I think this has been an important government stance in this search for dialogue and trying to seek a negotiated way out to respect these historical relationships we have with the United States.”
The meeting took place around 4:30 pm. Also present were Ministers Camilo Santana (Education), Alexandre Padilha (Health) and Gleisi Hoffmann (Institutional Relations), as well as Senator Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES) and federal deputies by the state Helder Salomão (PT) and Jack Rocha (PT).
The governor had already been Geraldo Alckmin to talk about surcharge.
At the time, Casagrande said that about 30% of exports leaving Espírito Santo go there and stated that the goal of Alckmin’s meetings in recent days with industry, agribusiness and technology entrepreneurs should be to encourage dialogue with US entrepreneurs and reinforce negotiation with the US.
