"I became a nurse to help others but I regret it: it is a job that wears us quickly"

An emergency nurse from the Sant’Orsola hospital in Bologna has described the conditions facing those who work like her, including impossible schedules, aggressions (verbal and other) and threats: “Our work is very pleasant, but what gives you is less than what takes you today.”

“We always work with limited personnel, always with a minimum contingent, especially during the holiday period, which must obviously be guaranteed, but a disease, an injury or an unforeseen event so that the troops are not sufficient .

Di Lembo has told that he has been working as a nurse for 10 years. “After finishing my degree and postgraduate studies and choosing Bologna for its nurse tradition. Before that, I worked on sailboats and even for a charter company, but at one point I felt the need to do something with social impact. I really believed in this work and started with great enthusiasm,” he added.

Now, however, he has assured that he regrets. “I begin to feel the tension. A tension that is rarely recognized. I would like to have more time for my personal life. Without an adequate couple, this profession is not attractive. It does not allow you to organize your life, not to mention money, that for a city like Bologna it is very limited,” he said.

“If we could do it as it should, ours would be a very pleasant job, but what it gives you is less than it enters now. So, in the end, you have to make your own decisions,” he said.
