The former president of the Federal Supreme Court, retired minister Celso de Mello, expressed solidarity with eight colleagues of the court sanctioned by the Trump government with the suspension of the American visa. In a letter sent to the ministers, on Monday, 21, Celso de Mello condemns the act of the US government (‘extremely arbitrary’). “Associated with Bolsonarists and ‘Big Techs’, they seek to disrupt the Brazilian government system,” he says.
The former minister does not mention the name of Bolsonarists, whom he defined as ‘Quisolings’-traitors-but makes an indirect reference to the role of licensed federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of the former president who lives in the US and has decisive participation in the American offensive to STF ministers.
According to Celso de Mello, President Trump proves to be ‘one of those mediocre and undecided’. For him, the supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) must be punished for acting ‘insidiously or explicitly against the superior interests of Brazil and his people, conspiring, without shame and dishonorable’.
On Friday, 19, US Secretary of State Marco Rúbio announced that he would retaliate with the suspension of the American visa Minister Alexandre de Moraes and ‘his allies in the Supreme Court’ by Bolsonaro, now with limited movements-is under permanent electronic anklet monitoring and cannot leave home at night and other restrictions.
