In a historical initiative based on years of cooperation and devotion, the (ECM) has achieved an agreement with the Greek Foreign Ministry, with the aim of expanding a educational and cultural program for the youth of Greek diaspora around the world.
What started as an initiative focused on Melbourne has now evolved into a global opportunity for young Greek descent to reconnect with their roots, language and culture.
“This is not just a trip to Greece,” said EKM President Vassilis Papastergiadis, “it is a deep personal trip. Like Athens, it was not built in one day, so this program took years of dialogue and persistent efforts with the ministry until it was implemented. “
The program, originally designed to serve the Greek -Australian community, now welcomes participants from every corner of the world, creating a unique space for young people of the diaspora to explore their Greek identity, heritage and language and to create meaningful bonds with their peers.
Maria Papada, from the General Secretariat of Hellenism and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a key supporter and a steady presence on the program from day one, said:
“Mr. Papastergiadis inspired this program – a wonderful experience you are now starting. It is important for the Greek state to bring the youth of diaspora from all over the world. I’m really glad to be part of this effort. “
In addition to cultural deepening, the program plays an important role in enhancing the future participation of young people in the Greek communities.
As Basil said: “Through a deeper understanding of your culture, language and homeland, you come closer to the importance of our dispersion communities. Many of the participants and their families then became active members of the ECM. The vision is clear: investment in the new generation of leaders of the Greek diaspora. “
“Our Greek communities around the world can only survive through the involvement of new generations,” Vasilis continued. “This program reinforces their participation, cultivating genuine interest in every aspect of Hellenism- from culture and language to social and community action. As young people from all over the world begin this transformative journey, they are encouraged not only to experience the experience but also to exploit it, continuing to engage with their local Greek communities with their return. “
“I wish there were such programs when I was a student,” Vasilis added. “Make the most of this opportunity and when you return to your countries, you become active members in your local Greek communities.”
