Moraes threatens to arrest Bolsonaro for breaking order

STF minister gave the former president’s defense 24 hours to explain himself; He is prohibited from giving interviews, but went to the House and spoke to journalists

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Court (STF), determined on Monday (21.Jul.2025) that the lawyers of (PL) speak within 24 hours of the breach of precautionary measures imposed on the former president.

In the decision, Moraes warned that if the defense does not present the clarifications in the stipulated time, it may decrease the arrest of Bolsonaro, based on article 312, paragraph 1, of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Read A (PDF – 342 KB).

In the decision of this Monday (21.Jul), Moraes stated that “The precautionary measure of prohibition of use of social networks, directly or through third parties, includes the transmissions, relay or placement of audios, videos or transcripts of interviews in any of the third party social networks platforms.”. Also on Monday (21.Jul), Bolsonaro attended a PL meeting in the House of Representatives. On the way out, he displayed for the first time the electronic anklet he started to use by order of the Supreme Court. To journalists, he classified the equipment as a “Symbol of humiliation”.

In the order, Moraes quotes the episode to charge explanations of the defense. He states that Bolsonaro appeared in posts on social networks showing the electronic anklet and doing a “speech” For online disclosure.

Although it has not explicitly banned that Bolsonaro granted interviews, the minister imposed restrictions that, in practice, make this type of exposure impossible. If excerpts from the former president’s speech on video, audio or text are published by third parties on social networks, he may be accused of violating what may lead to his prison.
