So -called “Benfica District”the main highlights of this project are the construction of a multipurpose pavilion with capacity for 10,000 people, two sports pavilions with 2,500 and 1,500 seats, respectively, a community pool, a theater and place for events with capacity for 500 people, an outdoor soccer field, an athletic track and commercial, hotel and residential installations.

According to the club, “It is the most ambitious project scheduled for Lisbon”aiming to modernize and reinforce the offer of enclosures, amenities and public spaces, in three essential axes: sport, culture and entertainment.
“It is an ambitious and strategic project, thinking about partners, supporters and clubthat we want to start immediately, to create better conditions in the stadium and modalities, to project Benfica even more in the country and worldwide as the great sports reference of Portugal and in time to be completed for the great international competitions that the country will welcome, ”said Rui Costa, in statements released by the ‘eagles’, in a statement sent to the newsrooms.
Regarding the Estádio da Luz, the project has foreseen the placement of a new facade, with integrated LED lighting and to illuminate the architecture on game days, and the addition of a fourth level outside the stands, to enjoy office, hospitality premium with greater capacity or other commercial facilities.
New screens inside the enclosure, over the benches, to the likeness of the new stadium Santiago BernabéuCasa do Real Madrid, are also visible in the plans presented by Benfica, which advocates a project based on sustainability.
In the surrounding area, in addition to the new developments suggested, the project foresees a square in front of the main façade of Estádio da Luz, with capacity for 10,000 people and will have a Cabin of DJ and space for events, surrounded by restoration establishments, shops and restaurants, and is also Statue of Eusébio, the club’s largest figure, relocated to the main entrance of the square.

The project has the collaboration of Populous, the original designer company of Estádio da Luz, inaugurated in 2004, and the Saraiva + Associates Architecture Office, resulting in a “gradual work that intensified in these last 18 months”.
In time from the World Cup
If Rui Costa is reelected in the direction of Benfica, in the October elections this year, the project will advance, with the forecast of Construction to be two yearsbetween the end of 2026/27 and the Beginning of 2029/30to be ready in time to receive the 2030 World Cup.
The presentation of the project will take place this Tuesday, from 18h00, at Estádio da Luz; and will be attended by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Margarida Balseiro Lopesand the mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Coins.
