The landslide caused by tidal monsoon rains has claimed at least three victims in North Pakistan, local officials said on Tuesday. The landslide hit the highway in the mountains and swept several cars, many of which remain stuck under the debris. TASR writes about it on the basis of AFP.

“We have found three dead bodies and more than 15 people are still missing,” confirmed police officer Abdul Hamid in the hit Diamer district. He added that landslide occurred on Monday. According to him, at least ten cars remain under the ruins.

Floods in this area on Monday also damaged 50 houses, four bridges, hotel, school and blocked the main highways and damaged communication signals.

The monsoon period brings approximately 80 percent of the annual rainfall to Pakistan and lasts from June to September, explains AFP. The Pakistani disaster agency announced on Tuesday that at least 221 people had died in the last month as a result of monsoon rains and more than 500 others have suffered injuries. According to her, there are 104 children and 40 women among the victims, AFP spokesman said.
