The White House announced that the daily will not have a special access during the President’s weekend visit to Scotland.
The White House on Monday Wall Street Journal (WSJ) announced that its staff will not travel to President Donald Trump for a planned visit to Scotland. On Friday, Trump filed a lawsuit for an article describing the President’s ties to the deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein. He was accused of trafficking in human beings before his death. This was pointed out by AFP, TASR reports.
Trump will go to Scotland over the weekend. He will visit his golf resorts there and meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“Due to fake and derogatory behavior, WSJ will not be one of the thirteen media on board. As the Court of Appeal confirmed, the WSJ daily or any other medium has no guaranteed special approach to covering the activities of President Trump in an oval office, on board Air Force One and his private work space,” said White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. She referred to the decision of the court, which rejected the action of AP in June. This year, the White House also limited the access to the cover of Trump’s activities.
The US President filed a lawsuit against WSJ and its owner, the media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, almost immediately after the daily published an article on Trump’s letter with a sexual undertone and drawing a naked woman who once reportedly wrote Epstein. The article states that a letter for Epstein with Trump’s signature was part of a collection of congratulations to Epstein’s 50th birthday in 2003. Trump denied that he wrote the letter and described the article as “false, malicious and derogatory”.
Epstein in 2019 – During Trump’s first term – he committed suicide in a New York prison after he was
accused of trafficking in human beings, including minors for sexual abuse purposes with his friends and acquaintances. Both Trump and his people in the campaign suggested that it might not have been suicide, and promised to publish the names of Epstein’s prominent clients if they came to power. But now they say there is nothing to publish. This attitude has caused a serious split between Trump’s followers.
