Former President Jair Bolsonaro’s defense denied that he has breached precautionary measures during the national congress appearance on Monday (21/7). Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes yesterday asked the defense to explain within 24 hours Bolsonaro’s speeches to journalists, as well as displaying the electronic anklet after the images were widely released.
According to the precautionary measures imposed on Friday (18/7), Bolsonaro is prohibited from using social networks, either directly or through third parties. At the time, he said he is innocent of accusations of attempted coup.

Defense claims that Bolsonaro suspended the use of social networks, as determined, but that the precautionary does not prohibit it from giving interviews and that “such prohibition would not be in line with Brazilian jurisprudence.”
Regarding the scope of the prohibition of use of social network, which was expanded in an order presented yesterday by Moraes, the defense claims that the new decision “goes far beyond the initial prohibition of the use of social networks.” He points out that the first decision “never considered” include the transmission or broadcast of interviews on third party platforms.
For the defense, the relay of images is part of an “uncontrollable unfolding of contemporary digital communication dynamics” and that understands the extended way would imply a “real risk of improper curtailment of freedom” due to actions of alien people. The defense also claims that it was not summoned about the new decision and, therefore, calls for clarification on the extent of the measure. The former president is being investigated in the Supreme for attack on national sovereignty and coercion in the course of the process.
