The Brazilian Ana Catharina34, used its social networks to vent on xenophobia after being eliminated from the reality show “Big Brother Summer” from Portugal on Monday (21).

Ana’s departure from the program occurred after a conflict with another participant inside the house, Portuguese Catarina Miranda, who imitated the Brazilian accent as a way to mock the competitor. The video of the confusion went viral on the nets, as Ana Catharina revolts with and climbs on a chair asking her to repeat the mockery with the Brazilian accent.

The Portuguese public took the side of Catarina and ended up eliminating the Brazilian after the fight between the two. According to Ana, she has become the victim of several xenophobic comments on the networks since leaving the house.

“My Brazilian accent was satirized in the Portuguese reality show that I just participated in and, to my astonishment, the competitor who did this to me did not receive any sanction and the result was that when the images came to light, I was expelled by the audience that pays to vote,” Ana vented a video posted on her Instagram.

“Since then I’ve received numerous xenophobic messages on the street and my social networks. The main message is ‘back to your land’. And also relativizing what happened,” she said. “It is very easy for those who are not Brazilian and live in Portugal to relativize a situation as serious as the grazing of accent. Discrimination often appears very subtlely.”
