Ruth Cardoso, widow of footballer Diogo Jota, pointed out on Tuesday a month since the marriage to the player, tragically tragically on July 3, following a road accident in Spain. In a post on Instagram, he shared a short emotional message: “A month from our ‘neither death separates us’. Forever, your white.”
The publication was accompanied by three wedding day photographs. Two show the couple’s first dance and the third highlights the intertwined hands of the bride and groom, in focus the rings of the ceremony, in an image that synthesizes the symbolism of the moment lived just a month ago.
The causes of the accident
Diogo Jota, 28, lost his life together with his brother, André Silva, 25, at dawn on July 3. The accident occurred on the A52 motorway, in the Cernadilla area, in the Zamora region of Spain.
According to data collected by the Spanish Civil Guard, the vehicle in which they followed will have suffered the burst of a tire during an overtaking maneuver, eventually out of mind and set on fire. Authorities do not exclude the possibility of speeding.
The funeral was held on July 4 and the funeral the next day at the São Cosme Mother Church in Gondomar. Several personalities from the world of football were present, including João Félix, Bernardo Silva and André Villas-Boas, as well as the Liverpool squad, the club that the player represented.
A interrupted wedding
The couple exchanged alliances on June 22, just before the tragic accident. They had three children in common: two boys and a girl, the latter born in November 2023.
The career of Diogo Jota, born in Gondomar, began at the Earth Club, then passed by Paços de Ferreira. He would arrive at FC Porto on Atletico Madrid loan, and followed Wolverhampton, where he stood out before he was transferred to Liverpool in 2020.
For the English club, he won several titles, including the Premier League, the England Cup and two league cups. He also became champion of the Championship with Wolverhampton.
In the national team, the striker added 49 internationalizations and scored 14 goals. The last great achievement with the Quinas team was the League of Nations last June in Munich.
In a moment marked by mourning and memory, that of Ruth Cardoso, widow of Diogo Jota, rescues the symbolism of a promise made shortly before the tragedy: a commitment forever.
