Indians once again allowed the issuance of visas for Chinese tourists; countries have had diplomatic conflicts in recent years

The Embassy of India in China reported on Wednesday (23.Jul.2025) that again authorized the issuance of tourism visas for the Chinese. The country had blocked the approval of the document in 2022.

The restriction of the issuance of visas was a retaliation after the Chinese government prevented, by 2022, the return of about 20,000 Indians studying in the country. The justification was that China faced effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, which made it impossible for students’ return at that time.

The decision to re -view Chinese tourists at a time when the world’s 2 most populous countries negotiate the reconstruction of their bilateral relations after years of diplomatic and military conflicts.

Countries are members of BRICS, but have not been in good terms since 2020. In this year, military clashes have climbed between the two nations in Ladaque, which borders Tibet.

Another discomfort in the relationship between India and China is that Beijing is the main military ally of Pakistan, with whom the Indians also wage military conflicts. In 2025, the Pakistani used Chinese jets to combat the Indian forces.

Despite the recent history, Asian countries want to sit back on the same table to discuss partnerships and strategies.

Last week, the Chinese government said it is interested in approaching India. Russia, ally of the 2 countries, is the one who articulates this approach. The idea of the Russians is to revive the RIC (Russian-China) forum, which has not been held since 2020.

According to the Chinese, current geopolitics with fragmentation driven by protectionist measures should be a union vector for the two largest economies in Asia.

“China-Russia-India cooperation is not only in the interest of the 3 countries, but also conducive to peace, safety, stability and regional and even global progress. China is willing to maintain contact with Russia and India to promote China-Russian cooperation.”said a spokesman for the Chinese government last week.
