The professional public still does not know what attack was carried out on the cadastre at the beginning of this year. This is the case for the non -publicity of the police investigation and the lack of communication by the competent authorities. This is what the specialist of cyber security Štefan Porubčan thinks. For TASR he said this in an interview.
“At the same time, the cadastre operates a very specific information system that connects the cadastral workplaces of individual district offices with the Office of Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre (ÚGKK) of the Slovak Republic. This architecture was implemented years ago, so there may be a hint of some technological debt, but that’s just speculation at the moment. I can imagine that there could really have been an abuse of vulnerability, some penetration into the internal infrastructure of the information system, ”he said.
According to Porubčan, the scope of the attack is also the subject of speculation due to the lack of information published by the authorities. Thus, the rumors may circulate whether the attack has also affected the central parts of the system, or only less important parts were affected and everything other system manager turned off only preventively – to prevent further spread of the incident.
As an IT specialist added, no one can say when the investigation information is unable to say when the cyber’s investigation will be completed. “Being basically half a year now, it is nowhere written that it will not take another half a year, ” noted.
As he recalled, the attack on the Office of Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre of the Slovak Republic influenced many areas of life. Long system renewal has caused problems to ordinary people as well as companies and institutions. “Real estate business as such, banks that finance the purchase of real estate, and so on. Other activities type to equip your parking license. Suddenly, the city clerk could not check that the person was really owner of the property, whether he was entitled to the parking card, ”he concluded.
The spokesman of the Police Force Presidium Roman Hajek for TASR stated that The case continues to investigate, so “it is not possible to provide further information at the moment in order to avoid the purpose of criminal proceedings”.
At the beginning of the year, the systems of the Office of Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre of the Slovak Republic suffered a cyber attack, as a result of which the cadastral systems had to be taken out of operation. According to the June statement of Matúš Šutaj Eštok (voice-SD), the security forces will continue to investigate. The ÚGKK SR gradually started its systems into operation. Last time he renewed lustrations through the portal of electronic services of the cadastre of real estate.
