The Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins
Ana Paula Martins does not resign before presentation of three new reports, one dosa which concluded that user died of heart attack after waiting 90 minutes for help. “We regret and learn,” says Minister.
In a statement to journalists, with no right to questions, Ana Paula Martins said he asked the inspector general of health activities the complete report regarding the case of 86 -year -old user who died of myocardial infarction October 31, 2024.
According to the General Inspection Report of Health Activities (Igas), man had a probability of survival, although reduced.
Early in the evening of Tuesday, at the Ministry of Health (Lisbon), the ruler argued that “the report does not make a direct connection between this death and the strike”.
“The report says that the victim’s clinical picture – and quotes again: ‘In addition, in these circumstances, the establishment of a causal link between the delay in care by COD [Centro de Orientação de Doentes Urgentes] and the death that occurred, ‘”he said.
Government “to learn”
However, the minister acknowledged that “there were clear delays in the service and, therefore, in the provision of help.” And admitted that the lack of “causal link” does not leave the government rested, saying that The “malfunction will not be repeated again.”
“Every day INEM receives, on average, 4434 calls and provides relief to 4,100 people. Of these, close to 800 are serious patients. Taking political consequences of similar situations to the past, means how I have always said, solving problems and not throwing the towel to the floor,” he said.
“The medical emergency – just like the NHS – saves thousands of people every day. When this is not possible, when there is a death (even if inevitable), not only regret it but we learn from it. That’s what we are doing,” said the minister.
