Decree signed by the mayor, published on Tuesday (22) in the Official Gazette of the Municipality, creates the “Circuit of Blocs Blocs of Rua Preta Gil” in the city center. According to the decree, the route of the Preta Gil circuit will have a concentration on Rua 1º de Março, in the stretch between Rua do Rosário and Rua do Ouvidor, and from this point will go to Presidente Antônio Carlos Avenue, at the time of Araújo Porto Alegre Street.

The authorized blocks may travel, according to the annual planning of the tourism company of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro (Riotur) and the Municipal Secretariat of Culture.

According to the considerations of the decree, it was “decisive” in the resumption of street carnival in the center and contributed to the place to become an “urban space of cultural citizenship.” “The Black Block, founded in 2009, is one of the most relevant expressions of Rio Carnival bringing together millions of people on the streets of downtown Rio de Janeiro,” says the text.

Preta singer and businesswoman Gil died on Sunday (20), at age 50, a victim of gut cancer. Preta Gil is the daughter of singer Gilberto Gil with Sandra Gadelha, and leaves her son Francisco Gil and granddaughter Sol de Maria. As an interpreter, she recorded four studio albums, two live CDs and DVDs. She was also a partner of Mynd, one of the main digital marketing agencies in Brazil. The funeral takes place this Friday (25), at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro.
