The University of Florida announced in a new study a “universal vaccine against cancer”, which trains the immune system to kill any tumor.
Following that last year, which successfully reproached the immune system to master glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, the university of Florida scientists have now developed the Arnm vaccine to combat not one, but any cancer.
According to the study last week at Nature Biomedical Engineeringthis vaccine has the potential of eliminate chemotherapy and surgeries.
A MRNA VACCINE OF “GENERAL OBJECTIVE” Drastically increases the capacity of the immune system to combat tumors – even without aiming at a specific type of cancer.
It works similar to a covid-19 vaccine, but with a different target. As explained by New Atlas, gives instructions to immunity cells to meet and attack any type of tumor in the same way.
In a trial with melanoma mice, the vaccine was able to eliminate existing tumors that had revealed resistant to medicines. In other models of cancer, including the brain, skin and bones, the drug was even able to eliminate tumors without the help of any other treatment.
“It was a very unexpected and exciting observation: even a vaccine not specific to any particular tumor or virus – as long as it is a mRNA vaccine – it can lead to specific effects of the tumor,” he told the same magazine, Elias Sayourpediatric oncologist and main researcher at the RNA Engineering Laboratory at UF.
The success of the study on glioblastoma led to the widening of the scope of treatment, not aiming at a type of tumor, but focusing on give the body’s immune system the tools needed to combat any type of cancer cell.
It is part of a growing set of evidence that suggests that NBA vaccines can be a important weapon in the fight against the disease.
