Americans remove 42 million liters of maritime fuel from companies near the Chinese coast
(Acronym for United States Defense Logistics Agency) wants to transform southern Philippines into a supply base for US Navy ships and jets.
According to the US government, hiring an annual quota of 42 million liters of fuel from companies located on Mindanao Island. One of the reasons cited is to strengthen the US presence in the region “In the case of a conflict with China”.
DLA is responsible for supporting US military operations around the world. The US Naval Institute reported that the agency is examining the region in the Pacific in search of facilities that can receive, store and transport maritime and aviation fuels.
The island of Mindanao is the southernmost southern of the Philippines. It is about 1,800 km from the southern coast of China, where important Chinese cities such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen are located.
In addition to military interests, the transformation of parts of the Philippines into a US Navy supply hub also aims to correct a recent bottleneck in US logistics.
In 2022, the US government closed one of its main bases of Pacific, Red Hill base in Hawaii. The installation was closed because of leakage problems that contaminated water in the US state.
To increase its presence in the Pacific, the US government needs to look for new foundations in the region.
