A submerged ship that lay on the bottom of the sea for over two and a half centuries was discovered on one of the Orkney Islands, north of the coast of Scotland.
According to Oxu.AZ, the information was reported by the AP News Agency.
The event has aroused a special interest on the island, which has a population of about 500 inhabitants. It is mentioned that, starting with the fifteenth century, over 270 ships sank in this area.
“I would call this ship a lucky one, even if it sounds weird for a shipwreck,” said a main marine archaeologist at Wessex Archaeology.
Research has shown that the ship participated in important events related to the British Empire, including the siege of Louisbourg and Quebec, as well as the escorting of convoys in American colonies. In 1784, it was sold to the military and renamed, later becoming a whale hunting ship operating near the coasts of Greenland.
