The federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP) presented to the Chamber, on Wednesday (23), a project called “Law Elon Musk”. The proposal provides for the taxation of big techs for the use of personal data collected from Brazilian citizens.

The initiative arises in the wake of tensioning between Brazil and the government of Donald Trumpof the USA.

The Boulos project establishes a digital social contribution to be applied to Big Techs with annual gross revenue over $ 500 million – such as Google, Goal (owner of WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram) and X (former Twitter), owned by billionaire Elon Musk.

Boulos states that “Big Techs need to remunerate our population, since it is from data collection and their marketing that most of the income and enrichment of the owners of these companies happen.”

The proposal will also be analyzed by the thematic committees of the House of Representatives before going to a vote in the plenary.
